FUMC-Commerce works throughout the year to serve both locally and abroad. In addition, the church family has traditional seasonal service opportunities that allow all church members to make the holidays memorable for those around them.
Community Thanksgiving Dinner
Each November, the Mission of the Month is the Community Thanksgiving Dinner, which is hosted at Omega’s Biscuits and Eggs restaurant. FUMC Commerce is proud to join other community businesses and organizations to financially support this community event. A full Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings, including dessert and a bag of produce to take home, is prepared and served for anyone in the community. Meals are served at Omega’s and can be prepared for carry-out, as well.
Ways to Serve
• Soup Making – Make your favorite soup or stew to provide an additional meal to a home-bound neighbor over the holiday weekend.
• Hospitality – Assist with meal serving, and clean-up on Thanksgiving Day.
• Home Deliveries – Deliver a Thanksgiving meal, soup and a blessing to a home-bound neighbor.
• Attendance – Be our guest and strengthen our community! Conversations during the meal provide opportunities for neighbors to connect and learn from one another.
Merry Marketplace & Lunch for Missions
On the first Saturday each December from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., we host our annual Merry Marketplace & Lunch for Missions in the Family Ministry Center. This fundraiser benefits general missions of the church and the Prayer Shawl Ministry. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to connect with our community! The Youth offer a spaghetti lunch as a fundraiser for camp and other youth mission activities.
The Merry Marketplace offers beautiful handwork from the Prayer Shawl Ministry, as well as your donations of antiques and vintage finds, Christmas decorative items, gifts for giving, and homemade baked goods and treats. And following our strong tradition of alternative gifts, donors can contribute to missions in Commerce and beyond in honor of family and friends.
Prison Fellowship Angel Tree
Each December our church participates in the Prison Ministries Fellowship Angel Tree Project, a ministry that FUMC-C has supported for over 20 years. Through this ministry, our congregation adopts angels and purchases gifts on behalf of the incarcerated parent, as well as pray for the children, their caregivers, and the incarcerated parent.
